Raquel, each day I go through a lot of red tape that obliges me to fill out forms that authorize me to breathe. Artists often sabotage the bureaucracies by placing among the files forms that destabilize the peace: “please, don’t fill this silence,” you are asking me at the exact moment when, while standing in line to enter your chamber of silence, I allow the sound of an exhalation to escape. Between your request and my failure to meet it, the space is open that separates this “s” from that “t.” In front of me in the line, the assonance fills forms. When its turn is announced, it propagates toward the room that simulates the ancestral silence to the assonant Big Bang five seconds before it went off. Will it be possible, in the utter silence that is inside the Assonances of Silences (Listening Room) to hear the rubbing of molecules which, still propelled by the Big Bang, form the material of my eardrum? But, upon entering the listening room, I hear only the sounds of my brain assonating questions: our country was built on political silences that anesthetized our critical capacity and, at the same time, we are citizens that can’t stand to remain in silence. More than calm or peace, Raquel, in your booth I feel the discomfort of being in a silent country. Best regards,
